Bell P-39N 42-18894 On April 13, 1944 2nd Lt. Robert W. Beattie was on routine fighter training flight when his P-39N was seen by a witness to be in a spin. 2nd Lt. Beattie attempted to bail out by releasing a cockpit door, but he failed to leave his aircraft which crashed and burned on flat desert near Barstow, CA.
